About INDIGENES (translated from their website)
INDIGÈNES adj: NATIVE, from the country (region) where he/she/it is located.
The winemakers of Catalan lands, the «natives» who are so numerous on this earth today, were missing a common ground, a place to meet locally, and almost always forced to go into exile to talk about their wines!
INDIGENES was born from a desire to create a major event in Northern Catalonia, with an open spirit, and without any prejudice. The wine fair welcomes professionals and #winelovers around 100 producers from North and South Catalonia and Occitania, ever-attentive to the living from the vineyard to the winery - and around natural wine, which is, in essence, the product of an exchange between man and nature.
INIDIGENES is of course the name given to yeasts naturally present on the grape (the base of wine) or in the cellar, the only ones that will have fermented the wines presented at the salon. Brave little beasts, not bodybuilders, not stakhanovites, who work valiantly (not always enough, certain ones are southerners!) for our pleasure and our health.
INDIGENES is also the name of the first natural wine bar in Perpignan, created by our late friend Christophe Albero who disppeared too early at the beginning of 2016.
INDIGENES is a philosophy. The producers present are all implicated in the protection of nature, preserving biodiversity and promoting an authentic farming world.
INDIGENES is a historic and cultural innovation, 804 years after the Battle of Muret which irreparably separated the Catalans and Occitans: all cousins through language, culture, climate, landscape and lifestyle. It’s an event that brings together people who have kept a strong common bond over the centuries, thanks to sweet wines, thanks to grenaches, carignans, macabeos and other malvasias…Vines and wines know no boundaries!
